I have been married 39 years this August to my wife, Marla Blaser. We have four adult children and three energetic grandchildren. I enjoy hunting, fishing, mountain biking, hiking, trail running, sport shooting, reading, and time with family.

I began my career in education in the early 80s teaching and coaching at the middle school and high school level. I gained experience working with diverse students as a teacher, as a professional technical club advisor, and coach.

After 13 years of teaching and coaching I made a transition to law enforcement where I served in a growing metropolitan police department for over 10 years. During this time, I served as juvenile detective, SRO, Idaho POST instructor, and Metro SWAT Team member.

After many enjoyable and rewarding years, I realized my training and skills could be used more effectively by engaging youth within the school community and working more closely with families as an educator. I accepted a position with the West Ada School district as a middle school assistant principal and later moved to a large high school where I served in this capacity for eleven years.

In 2018, I accepted the position as Superintendent of Cascade School District and served as their superintendent for the next three years. As superintendent of a rural school district, I have had the opportunity to lead important and necessary changes which have resulted in continuous academic achievement, improved staff morale, financial stability for the district, and a greater community trust.

Hello! I am excited to lead our students as the Rimrock principal this year.

For the past two years, I have been Rimrock’s High School science teacher. Before that, I served as an active duty Air Force officer for approximately 12 years until transitioning into the Air Force reserves and starting a civilian career in education. I chose to enter into education because, during the course of my military career, I realized the importance of developing character, wisdom, and grit in our youth in order to equip them to be productive citizens and leaders for our communities and nation. I hope that, as Rimrock’s principal, I can facilitate a high-quality education for our students that prepares them with both the knowledge and character to be successful in life.

My educational background is varied, as I graduated high school from a math and science charter school in Illinois before attending the US Air Force Academy, where I received a degree in political science and foreign area studies. I also have a Master’s Degree in National Security Studies from the American Military University and attended language schools at the Defense Language Institute as well as overseas in Russia and Oman. I am currently enrolled in the Educational Specialist program for Educational Leadership at Northwest Nazarene University.

During my time in the military, I held a variety of assignments in law enforcement, intelligence, and counterterrorism, both in the US and overseas. I’ve also been an instructor for leadership, character development, and process improvement, and worked with Congress and the Department of Defense in the Pentagon on violence prevention and resiliency for the Department of the Air Force. I have held command (leadership) assignments in Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates overseas, as well as Nebraska, Nevada, and here in Idaho at Mountain Home AFB.

I am married to my wonderful and talented wife Emily, who is Rimrock’s Junior High science and social studies teacher, and we have two children, Annika (5) and Evelyn (1).
