Preparing for Winter Weather

Dear BES families,

Winter is just around the corner. This is the time of year to ask, “Why winter Weather
Matters for Bruneau Elementary School?” Winter weather includes a variety of
conditions such as snow, sleet, freezing rain, ice, and frigid temperatures. These
conditions can affect school causing transportation delays, facility challenges with
heating issues, frozen pipes and slipper sidewalks. They can also cause attendance
concerns with cold and flu symptoms.

Here are ways the schools plan to make the most of the cold winter season ahead: Take
extra care when traveling, bundle up at recess, encourage snow man building contests,
during our Reading Core time we can plan for cozy reading days, and look forward to
the district Christmas-music concert.

Tips for preparing your family for winter weather:

  • Dress warmly
  • Make sure your contact information is updated in PowerSchool with the school secretary, so you get the school alert for school closure updates.
  • Practice safe travel as a family – plan for extra travel time on snow covered roads.
  • As a family, have a back-up plan in the event that school is suddenly canceled or delayed due to winter weather.

Let’s have a great winter school experience!

  • Confidentiality/No gossip—Each person tells only those needing to know.
  • Everyone participates—Participation includes listening, thinking time, and contributing to the activities.
  • Appropriate task completion—Doing the right thing at the right time

A Message From the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,
We’re off to a wonderful start here at Bruneau Elementary School! It has been such a joy to welcome students back into the classrooms and see their enthusiasm for learning. Over these first few weeks, our students have been showing great effort, positive attitudes, and a strong sense of
community as they settle into routines and begin their academic journey for the year.
As part of our efforts to support student learning, all students have recently taken a baseline assessment in both reading and math. These assessments help us gauge where each student is academically after the summer break and allow us to tailor instruction to best meet their individual needs. We are excited to use this information to guide teaching and help every student
grow and succeed.
Were also happy to share that our food service program, including the grab-and-go breakfast and lunch options, has been a great success so far! It’s wonderful to see students starting their day with a nutritious meal and fueling their learning throughout the day.
As always, we encourage open communication between home and school. If you have any questions, concerns, or simply want to check in on your child’s progress, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school office or your child’s teacher. We value your partnership and support in
making this a great year for every student.
Thank you for your continued trust and involvement in your child’s education. We look forward to a fantastic school year ahead!
