Winter Weather Reminder

With winter almost upon us, we would like to remind parents of the procedures that will be followed if it becomes necessary to close the schools or alter bus routes due to weather conditions, Although slick roads are hazardous, they are considered normal during the winter and generally not a reason to close school. Blowing and drifting snow across roads and highways usually cause the district's major weather problems. If it becomes necessary to delay the start of a school day, dismiss early, or cancel school we will have it announced on KBOI AM Radio (670), KQFC FM Radio (97.9), KIDO AM-Newsradio 630, and Idaho 's Newschannel 7.

Jim Dawson, District Transportation Supervisor, will make the decision whether to run the buses on the regular schedule, have a late start, or to close school for the day. If canceling school becomes an option, often the decision cannot be made before 6:30 a.m. , however, the decision will be made as early as possible. Because the Bruneau-Grand View Jt School District covers so much territory, weather conditions may vary greatly from end of the district to the other. If parents determine the road conditions at their home to be hazardous please call the district office at 834-2253 or your child's bus driver. Bus drivers are counseled to use caution and to proceed only if road conditions are safe. Drivers are also directed to make contact with parents as early as possible with any changes in the bus route. If you are on a spur of your bus route and conditions indicate that the bus might not be able to turn around, please take the child out to the main road. Bus drivers have to use their best judgment whether or not to leave the main road when conditions are severe.

Please see to it that your children are dressed appropriately for cold weather. If a bus were to get stuck in snow they may have to wait a while before help arrives. Also, road conditions may cause buses to be off schedule a few minutes. We hope it will not be necessary to implement these procedures, but if it is, we ask for your assistance and cooperation to deal with the situation as effectively and safely as possible.

Parents, please note: If you determine that road conditions are unsafe, and you choose not to send your children on the bus, your child will receive an excused absence.
